It’s Mother’s Day, Hug Your Momma Today…

I know it feels like another reason for flower shops and Hallmark to make more money, but it doesn’t have to be like that unless you let it.

Give your Mother a hug and a kiss. Tell her how important she is and remember all the things she does for you throughout the year. I lost my mother in 2008 and my father in 1998, when these days come around I used to miss them more, but now I can think of them and smile.

It’s not about buying things or giving things today, for me its about appreciation and a sincere desire to let wonderful parents know the impact they have made in our lives.

No one is and island, and we all have a mother. The lucky among us can also choose our biological mother as that wonderful friend and  person in our lives who not only gave us life, but also taught us how to live a good life.

Our spiritual mother is a choice, look for her, seek and you will find her waiting to offer hugs and encouragement. This mother is like an elusive fairy, hiding right before your eyes.

Have a great Mother’s Day.

"Baby mine, don't you cry Baby mine, dry your eyes Rest your head close to my heart Never to part Baby of mine Little one, when you play Don't you mind what they say Let those eyes sparkle and shine Never a tear Baby of mine If they knew sweet little you They'd end up loving you too All of those people who scold you What they'd give just for the right to hold you From your head, down to your toes You're not much, goodness knows But you're so precious to me Sweet as can be Baby of mine If they knew sweet little you They'd end up loving you too All those same people who scold you What they'd give just for the right to hold you From your head, down to your toes You're not much, goodness knows But you're so precious to me Sweet as can be Baby of mine Baby of mine "- from Dumbo

“Baby mine, don’t you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part
Baby of mine
Little one, when you play
Don’t you mind what they say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear
Baby of mine
If they knew sweet little you
They’d end up loving you too
All of those people who scold you
What they’d give just for the right to hold you
From your head, down to your toes
You’re not much, goodness knows
But you’re so precious to me
Sweet as can be
Baby of mine
If they knew sweet little you
They’d end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they’d give just for the right to hold you
From your head, down to your toes
You’re not much, goodness knows
But you’re so precious to me
Sweet as can be
Baby of mine
Baby of mine “- from Dumbo

Am I the only one who cries with joy an sadness when Dumbo’s Mother sings him this song? To me it is the breadth and sum of motherhood, no biological ties required.

Persistence Wins the Day…

I feel good today, because I persisted. There are many times when life seems to get overwhelming, demanding, and downright yucky, but when we push through all that to the finish line we can be flooded with satisfaction, hope, strength, and optimism.

I am not going to break my arm patting myself on the back, but I am going to say, “Good job Beth” and use the boost this gives me to climb the next hill.

Too anyone climbing a hill of their own… see you at the summit. 🙂
